INFORMATION
FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS
The Department of Communication at Texas A&M University
offers Master of Arts and Doctor
of Philosophy degrees
in the field of communication with concentrations in:
Also featured at the master's level is the communication
generalist track, in which students choose a variety of courses from within several major concentrations and in related areas.
The graduate curriculum does not include
courses in applied communication skills such as public
speaking, debate, argumentation, or discussion. Such
skills-oriented courses are available, however, at the
undergraduate level.
The curriculum is specifically designed to emphasize research
by providing instruction in the history, theory, and analysis
of communication processes, events, and texts.
Our philosophy
is that our graduate students, at both the master's and
doctoral levels, have exposure to both social scientific
and humanistic approaches to scholarship. To this end,
we strive to identify common opportunities for students
and faculty from the various concentrations to work together
and learn from one another.
Currently, approximately
50 students are enrolled with 12-18 new students
accepted annually. Beyond a sizeable Texas-based contingent,
our graduate students come
from many other states, with an increasing international
component.
General information about the policies, procedures, and
regulations governing the graduate program in Communication
at Texas A&M is covered in more detail in the departmental Graduate
Handbook produced and the Texas A&M Graduate
Catalog. Copies of both are available from the Office
of Graduate Studies.
